KUTZTOWN, PA. (November 4, 2009) – The Kutztown University field hockey team had three players honored by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference as members of the 2009 All-PSAC East field hockey teams.
Kim Angstadt (Oley, PA/Oley Valley) (Oley/Oley Valley) and Anne Waapu (Hastings, NEW ZEALAND/) (Hastings, NEW ZEALAND) were first-team selections, while Courtney Zook (Oley, PA/Olley Valley) (Oley/Oley Valley) was a second-team honoree.
This marks the first All-PSAC selection for Angstadt. The junior transfer, in her first season with the Golden Bears, started in 19 games. She recorded three goals, including a game winner, and six assists. Angstadt also made one defensive save.
"Kim has been a pleasant surprise to the success of our 2009 team on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball," said coach Betty Wesner. "She was a major contributor to our offensive and defensive corner plays."
Waapu is a two-time All-PSAC honoree, earning first-team status for the first time. Despite missing four games due to injury, Waapu finished tied for second on the team in both goals (10) and points (24).
"Anne was a major contributor on the offensive side of the ball." added Wesner. "She is an offensive playmaker as well as excellent in striking the ball off corner plays."
Zook's selection to the second team is the first of her career. In her junior season, she started in 18 contests. Zook scored three goals, added two and assists and made one defensive save.
"Courtney was vital on both sides of the ball." said Wesner. "She possesses some of the best stick work and knowledge of the game that I have seen."
