Dennis is in the Faces of the Crowd section of the February 8 Winter Olympic preview issue.

“I am very excited to be featured in such a prestigious magazine,” Dennis said. “I know that a lot of great players have been in Sports Illustrated and to be among them is really overwhelming. It’s a great honor, not just for me, but our entire basketball program and University.”

The Golden Bears (17-3 overall) are ranked 15th in the National Association of Basketball Coaches/Division II Top 25 poll. In addition, Kutztown is ranked fifth in the latest NCAA Division II Atlantic Region poll.

Dennis is the all-time leading scorer in Kutztown men’s basketball history with 2,125 points, which is fifth in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference history. He broke Dave Ben’s previous school mark of 2,017 during a 33-point effort in a victory over Shippensburg on Jan. 23. In addition to the school scoring record, Dennis holds the KU record for made field goals and free throws. He is also closing in on the school record for assists.

Dennis leads the nation in scoring (26.8 points per game). He was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division player of the week four times this season, including three consecutive weeks from Jan. 11-25. Dennis has scored 30 or more points six times this season, including a career high 42 points on Jan. 13 in an 87-84 victory over East Stroudsburg. He also notched his first career triple-double on Dec. 2 in a 92-77 victory over Chestnut Hill College. Dennis scored 31 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and handed out 11 assists.

“It definitely feels good to see that the hard work I put into helping out the team has been recognized,” Dennis said. “I never imagined that I’d be featured in Sports Illustrated. It’s a blessing.”

Kutztown returns to action Saturday afternoon when it visits East Stroudsburg in a game beginning at 3 p.m.

Kutztown University senior guard and Division II national player of the year candidate Stephen Dennis has been named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division player of the week for the fifth time this season.

Dennis helped the 21st-ranked Golden Bears (19-3 overall) enjoy a perfect week. In two games last week against Mansfield and Millersville, Dennis averaged 34 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.5 blocked shots, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals. In helping Kutztown beat Mansfield, 81-69, avenging an earlier defeat, Dennis scored 37 points on 14-for-21 shooting.

He finished the week by notching his third double-double of the season with 31 points and 10 rebounds in a 77-69 victory over Millersville. Dennis also added a career-high six blocked shots and four assists in the win over the Marauders. He has scored 30 or more points eight times this season. With 2,193 career points, Dennis is fifth on the all-time PSAC scoring list.

Currently, Dennis leads the nation in scoring (27.5 ppg.). In addition to leading the PSAC in scoring, Dennis is second in assists (5.0), fifth in steals (2.0), ninth in field goal percentage (54.5) and 12th in blocked shots (1.2). Dennis needs eight assists to become Kutztown’s all-time leader in that category. Already, Dennis holds the school record for points, field goals and free-throws.
