KU bowling earns one more win at Nashville

NASHVILLE, TN (March 14, 2010) -- The Kutztown University women's bowling team finished 16th place after going 1-2 in the final day of the 300 Music City Classic Tournament, hosted by Vanderbilt University.

“We put a lot of effort in this weekend, it was just not much to show for,” head coach Joe Ambrose said.

Kutztown, ranked 12th in the latest poll released by the National Tenpin's Coaches Association (NTCA), earned the program's 200th win on Saturday.  Throughout the tournament, the Golden Bears competed against nationally ranked teams. Of the 20 teams competing, 17 are currently nationally polled.

Kutztown dropped matches to St. Francis (4-1) and Morgan State (4-3) in the Best of Seven Baker Matches. The Golden Bears sole win of the day came from a 4-0 domination over North Carolina A&T.

Leading the Golden Bears in today's performance was sophomore Kayla Jones. Jones averaged 18.1 in baker frames and a 37.5 strike percentage.

“It was great to compete with so many good programs in Nashville,” Ambrose said. “We will continue to work hard and use what we learned this weekend to active better results. We need to lick our wounds quickly and get ready to compete in Best of Seven Baker matches next weekend.”

The Golden Bears will pack their bags for the Northeast Conference Championships. Held in Elmwood Park, N.J. the three day tournament will begin March 19 at Parkway Lanes. Times are yet to be determined.
