KU golf ready to hit the links for spring opener

KUTZTOWN, PA (March 26, 2010) - After more than five months off, the Kutztown University women's golf team is ready to hit the links for the first time this spring at the McDaniel Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.

Head coach Rob Fisher expects his team to be ready for the 6,713-yard, par-72 Bridges Golf Course in Abbottsville (Pa), which is located between Gettysburg and York off of Route 30. Fans can follow the action by CLICKING HERE FOR LIVE STATS

“We really practiced hard once the girls came back from spring break,” said Fisher. “I expect our team to compete very strongly this weekend, though it will be tough in the first action after a long break.”

With Pennsylvania covered in snow, sophomore Chelsea Corbo and junior Samantha Rumbley retreated to Florida for spring break. The two relaxed in the sun and got in some rounds of golf.

Corbo and Rumbley were a solid 1-2 punch in the fall season with team-best averages of 84.0 and 84.8, respectively.

After rain caused the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships from October 17-18 to April 24-25, the Golden Bears will have more at stake this spring.

“I'm not putting any more emphasis on this part of the schedule, since each is equally important,” said Corbo. “Although, the PSAC's being at the end is definitely a nice way to finish the season and gives us something to look forward to.”

Joining Corbo and Rumbley this weekend will be sophomore Morgan Todd and freshmen Nina Antos and Mindy Glatfelter. Glatfelter is right on Corbo and Rumbley's heels with an 85.3 average, giving KU high expectations.

Following this weekend's action, the Golden Bears will travel to the Lakeshore Country Club for the Gannon Invitational on Sunday April 11 and Monday April 12.
