KU golfers finish third at Gannon Invitational

ERIE, PA (April 12, 2010) - The Kutztown University women's golf team improved by 10 strokes on the second day of the Gannon Invitational to finish third on Monday afternoon.

The Golden Bears followed up their first day 346 with a final round 336, which were the same totals as Ohio Valley University, but KU took third after claiming the tiebreaker. Walsh University grabbed first place with a 651 (328, 323) followed by West Liberty University with a 656. Host Gannon rounded out the top five finish with a 691.

Samantha Rumbley led KU with a team spring-best 79 on the 6,663-yard, par-71 Lakeshore Country Club to finish tied for 14th. Rumbley's second day score was an eight stroke improvement to finish a two round total of 166.

For the second consecutive outing, Morgan Todd was the the difference maker for the Golden Bears. The top four golfers from each school make up the team totals with the fifth used in a tie breaker. Todd's two-day total of 196 placed her 48th and just edged out OVU's fifth score by five strokes.

Chelsea Corbo
and Mindy Glatfelter finished alongside each other at 21st and 22nd, respectively. Corbo followed up her first day 87 with an 83 for a two-day total of 170. Glatfelter finished one stroke behind overall round scores of 85 and 86.   

Nina Antos was consistent, carding an 87 and 88 to finish tied for 27th with a total of 175.

"We had a really good weekend," said head coach Rob Fisher. "Sam had an amazing day and we had a great improvement. The girls played to the higher level I expected from them."

The Golden Bears will host the Kutztown Invitational on Friday April 16 at Berkleigh Country Club.
