KUTZTOWN, PA (April 14, 2010) – Ricky Pena and Clayton Youtz of the Kutztown University wrestling team were selected to the Division II All-Academic Wrestling team.
Pena, a sophomore education major, and Youtz, also a sophomore, received the honors after finishing with a 3.25 GPA or higher.
“It was a great ending to an awesome year for our wrestling program,” said head coach Rob Fisher. “We not only had an excellent year on the mats, but we also excelled in the classroom. We are very proud of the academic achievements of Ricky and Clayton, as well as the rest of the team. “
Pena was a strong contributor to the Golden Bears monumental season of breaking records and reaching milestones. Wrestling primarily at 165 pounds, Pena had a record of 8-7 in dual matches including a 48 second pin against Anderson University.
Youtz had a 6-4 record, including 4-2 in dual matches with a stretch of three consecutive wins in the 125 and 133 weight classes.
“This is definitely what we are striving for in our wrestling program,” said Fisher. “We want a balance of great team accomplishments on the mat and in the classroom.”
