KUTZTOWN , PA (April 2, 2010) – The Kutztown University women's tennis team swept Cheyney, 8-0 and 6-0
In two matches against Cheyney, the Golden Bears (7-5, 2-1), dropped only one game.
“We were playing with more confidence, and maintaining patience today which helped us win the matches,” Nicole Devine (Orefield/Allentown Central) said.
In the doubles, the tag team of Ridhima Borooah and Rachel Grula downed their opponents 8-0. Partners Rohini Das and Chelsea White also claimed an 8-0 victory.
In the first singles match, Sabrina Arnaud, Megan Groh , Tess Wright and Das went undefeated, earning an 8-0 victory. In the second contest, Nicole Devine, Das, Borooah, and Groh won their respective singles matches by scores of 6-0, 6-0.
Devine and White each dropped one game within today's performance. Devine earned an 8-1 win in the first set of singles matches. White posted a 6-1 win in the second set of singles matches.
“We have a lot of tough matches coming up in our schedule of play,” Devine said. “To make it to Atlantic Regionals, we have to win it all, so we've been concentrating on playing more practice-matches in practice, which I think is helping us do a lot better during game time."
The Golden Bears have five remaining matches on their regular season schedule. They will travel to Millersville on April 7 for a 2 p.m. match before returning home to host East Stroudsburg at 11 a.m. on April 10. The Golden Bears last home game of the season will be against Bloomsburg on April 13 at 2:30 p.m.
“We have a few seniors on the team and this is their last opportunity to go to regionals, so we have to make sure they get there,” Devine said. “That's our motivation right now.”
