Goulet and O'Donnell earn top PSAC awards

KUTZTOWN, PA (April 27, 2010) – The Kutztown University men's tennis team had four members named to All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) teams and for the second straight year took the top two honors.

Senior Jonathan Goulet was named the PSAC Athlete of the Year after posting a record of 22-10, playing mostly at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles. He was named to the All-PSAC first team for the first time in his career. Goulet gives the Golden Bears a second consecutive athlete of the year after Lukas Labitsch won the award last season.

“I am very proud of what Jonathan has achieved this year,” said head coach Suresh Ramamurthi. “The past two years his attitude and self determination has impressed me. He is a quiet leader that leads by example. Jonathan has shown that he has what it takes to get the points for the team at key times.”

Cameron O'Donnell also garnered a top conference award by being named the PSAC Freshman of the Year. With the help of the upper classmen on the team, O'Donnell was pushed into giving his best effort and in turn achieve better success. O'Donnell joins last season's award winner Kaushik Das to give the Golden Bears the freshman award in three of the last four years.

A typically quiet and laid-back person, O'Donnell stepped right into the Golden Bears lineup and made an immediate impact, specifically in No. 3 doubles with a 10-3 record. O'Donnell proved he has what it takes on the courts with a 4-1 record at the fourth singles.

“Cameron played above and beyond my expectations coming into the season,” said Ramamurthi. “He worked very hard over the summer and I was convinced that he would have an immediate impact with the team. He really loves playing and competing and is willing to give 100% all the time.”

Das was named to the All-PSAC singles first team in each of his first two seasons. Das has thrived with the high level of competition at the first singles spot, boasting a 15-4 record.

He and teammate Arpit Sharma were named to the doubles first-team as well. Sharma ends his career at KU receiving the first-team doubles award in each of his final three seasons. Das and Sharma have an overall record of 14-1 in the No. 1 doubles spot.

“Arpit, in spite of his heavy class schedule in his senior year, has come out and put himself on the spot,” said Ramamurthi. “He earned us valuable points when we needed it and motivated his teammates to give their best when it counts the most. Once he is on the court he is very focused and takes care of business.”
