Men's track and field ranked eighth in Atlantic Region

KUTZTOWN, PA (April 28, 2010) – The Kutztown University men's track and field team is ranked eighth in the Atlantic  Region, according to the latest poll by the United States Track and Field and Cross-Country Coaches' Association( USTFCCCA) released Tuesday afternoon.


The Golden Bears are ranked behind Saint Augustine's, Lock Haven, Shippensburg, East Stroudsburg, Johnson C. Smith, Edinboro, and West Virginia Wesleyan. Kutztown is ahead of Slippery Rock and Bowie State.


Kutztown remains eighth in the region after strong performances at both the Penn Relays and Paul Kaiser Invitational hosted by Shippensburg University last weekend.


At the Penn Relays, sophomore Kori Meshaw (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) turned heads when he finished the 400-meter hurdles 11th out of 43 entrants with a time of 52.93 seconds. He then paired with Eli Weeks (Pottstown/Owen J. Roberts), Shaun Crump (Boyertown/Boyertown) and Kendel Dixon (Atglen/Octorara) to finish seventh in the Wetzler/Pennsylvania 4 x 400-meter race. The quartet ran 3 minutes, 22.02 seconds. Justin Germani (Birdsboro/Daniel Boone) finished third with a clearance of 16 feet, 0.75 inches in the College Men's Pole Vault Championships.  


Meshaw dazzled again at the Paul Kaiser Invitational by winning the 400-meter hurdles (53.98). Dixon sprinted second across the finish line in second place of the 400-meter dash in 48.99 seconds. The 4 x 400 meter relay team consisting of Matt Cannell (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone), Weeks, Meshaw and Dixon crossed the finish line second with a time of 3 minutes 19.79 seconds.


The Golden Bears will travel to Princeton, N.J. for the Princeton Elite Meet on Saturday, May 1 and return home on Saturday, May 8 to host the Kutztown Invitational.


The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) is the non-profit professional organization that represents men's and women's cross country and track & field coaches in the United States. The organization represents over 8,000 coaching members, including 93% of NCAA track & field coaches. USTFCCCA serves as an advocate for cross country and track & field coaches, providing a leadership structure to assist the needs of a diverse membership, serving as a lobbyist for coaches' interests, and working as a liaison between the various stakeholders in the sports of cross country and track & field.
