KUTZTOWN, PA (April 28, 2010) – The Kutztown University women's track and field team is fifth in the latest Atlantic Region rankings released by the United States Track and Field and Cross-Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) Tuesday afternoon.
Kutztown is ranked behind Shippensburg (No. 1), Slippery Rock (No. 2), Saint Augustine's (No. 3) and Johnson C. Smith (No. 4). Ranked behind the Golden Bears are Indiana (PA), East Stroudsburg, Bowie State, California (PA), and Wheeling Jesuit.
The Golden Bears kept the fifth spot for the second consecutive week after strong performances at Penn Relays and the Kaiser Invitational at Shippensburg University.
Kutztown's 4 x 400-meter relay team of Rachel Hunte (Chester Springs, PA/Downingtown East), Brooke Mathews (Reedsville, PA/Indian Valley), Katie Colburn (Hanover/South Western) and Lynn Lisofsky (Wilkes Barre/James M. Coughlin) helped secure the ranking when the quartet ran a season best 3:56.45 at the Penn Relays on April 22. Kutztown throwers Ashley Pinter and April Doyle also had solid efforts. Doyle was seventh in the Eastern Division shot put with a toss of 43 feet, 11.25 inches. Pinter finished 16th overall in the hammer throw (157-5).
At the Paul Kaiser Invitational on April 24, Kutztown had four athletes finish in first place. Hunte won the 400 meter dash in 57.93 seconds. Kristin Slack grabbed first place in the long jump (17 feet, 7 inches). She also soared into second place for the triple jump (37 feet 4 inches). Doyle earned a first place finish for her shot put throw, throwing 44-3 and Pinter won the hammer throw at 11-7.
Kutztown will compete at the Princeton Elite Meet this Saturday, before wrapping up their season at home for the Kutztown Invitational on Saturday, May 8.
