Men's track moves to eighth in latest USTFCCCA Atlantic Regional rankings

KUTZTOWN, PA (May 11, 2010) -- The Kutztown University men's track and field team moved up one spot, into eighth place in the Atlantic Region, according to the latest poll by the United States Track and Field and Cross-Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) released Tuesday afternoon.

 

This is the third time this season the Golden Bears have been ranked eighth. Kutztown was previously ranked eighth in week three (April 20) and week four (April 27).

 

The Golden Bears are ranked behind Saint Augustine's (No. 1), Lock Haven (No. 2), Shippensburg (No. 3), East Stroudsburg (No. 4), Slippery Rock (No. 5), Edinboro (No. 6), and Johnson C. Smith (No. 7). Kutztown is ahead of West Virginia Wesleyan (No. 9) and Bowie State (No. 10).

 

Over the weekend Kutztown hosted the Last Chance Qualifier meet. Four Kutztown athletes won their respective events. The Golden Bears' Justin Germani soared 16-3 to win the pole vault, improving his NCAA provisional mark.  Jason Rebuck not only won the discus throw (158-9), but improved his 154-07 NCAA preliminary throw by more than four feet.

 

Adan Farrah won the 200-meter dash in 24.12 seconds and Kendel Dixon raced across the finish line in 49.02 for a first place finish in the 400-meter dash.

 

The Golden Bears' men's 4 x 400-meter relay team of Percell Berry, Kori Meshaw, Kendel Dixon, and Shaun Crump also finished first.

Finishing second for the Golden Bears was Shaun Crump in the 400-meter dash (49.54), Ben Loht in the 800-meter run (2:00.97), Matt Cannell in the long jump (22-11) and Greg Senatore in the hammer throw (152-5).

 

Kutztown will compete at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championships at West Chester University beginning Thursday afternoon.

 

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) is the non-profit professional organization that represents men's and women's cross country and track & field coaches in the United States. The organization represents over 8,000 coaching members, including 93% of NCAA track & field coaches. USTFCCCA serves as an advocate for cross country and track & field coaches, providing a leadership structure to assist the needs of a diverse membership, serving as a lobbyist for coaches' interests, and working as a liaison between the various stakeholders in the sports of cross country and track & field.
