PSAC CHAMPIONSHIPS: Doyle and Pinter claim titles for Kutztown women

 WEST CHESTER, PA (May 14, 2010) – Ashley Pinter and April Doyle highlighted a fantastic day for the Kutztown University women's track and field team by winning individual championships in their respective events during the opening day of the 2010 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championships at Farrell Stadium Friday afternoon. Pinter won the hammer throw with a toss of 167 feet, 7 inches and Doyle claimed the shot put with a throw of 44-2 to help Kutztown to a fifth-place effort with 33.50 points after the first day. The Golden Bears trail Slippery Rock (54), East Stroudsburg (49), Shippensburg (46.50) and Indiana, Pa. (40).

 

In addition to those sterling accomplishments, the Golden Bears' 4 x 100-meter relay team of Kristen Slack, Sarah Messner, Brooke Mathews and Shante Grayer shattered the school record in the preliminaries. The quartet ran 48.16 seconds to earn the third fastest qualifying entering the finals.

 

Keri Brown also earned an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard by finishing in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:12.80. She was second overall in the event. It was the second fastest time in school history behind Niya Adams' mark of 2:11.13 in 2003.

 

In other finals contested Friday on the women's side, Maggie O'Neil was tied for sixth in the high jump (5-03.75), Becca Brandt was sixth in the 5,000-meter run (17:57.72) and Kristen Slack was seventh in the long jump (17-11).  For, O'Neil it was her best effort of the season. Katie Colburn finished seventh in the heptathlon.

 

Other Kutztown women who qualified for Saturday's finals included Grayer in the 100-meter dash (sixth overall, 12.89 seconds), Lisofsky (third, 1:03.25).
