NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS: Four KU track student-athletes heading to Charlotte to compete

KUTZTOWN, PA (May 19, 2010) -- Four student-athletes from Kutztown University will be competing in the 2010 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held May 27-29 at Irwin Belk Track Complex on Johnson C. Smith University's campus.

 

Three men and one woman will represent the Golden Bears in the Queen City. On the men's side, Kori Meshaw (400-meter hurdles), Justin Germani (pole vault) and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) champion Jack Iosue (javelin). Keri Brown qualified in two events: 800-meter run and 1,500-meter run.

 

Meshaw's top effort in the 400-meter hurdles was 52.71 seconds at the Princeton Elite Meet on May 1. Germani cleared 16 feet, 3.5 inches at the Kutztown Last Chance Qualifier on May 8 Iouse's best toss in the javelin was 200-3 at the East Stroudsburg All-American Invite on April 24. Brown achieved her best times in the 800 and 1,500 at last weekend's PSAC Track and Field championships at West Chester. She ran 2:12.80 in the 800 and a school record time of 4:34.32 in the 1,500.

 

Meanwhile, following their sterling efforts at last weekend's PSAC Track and Field championships, both teams moved up two places in the latest United States Track and Field Cross-Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) weekly Atlantic regional polls. The men were ranked sixth and the women were ranked fourth.

 

The Kutztown men placed fifth at the PSAC championships and the women finished third overall.

 

Schools ranked ahead of the men are Saint Augustine's College, Shippensburg, Lock Haven, East Stroudsburg and Slippery Rock. The Golden Bears are ranked ahead of Johnson C. Smith, Edinboro, West Virginia Wesleyan and Indiana, Pa.

 

In addition to Iouse, also earning all-PSAC honors for Kutztown at last week's championships were Jason Rebuck (Southampton/William Tennent) (discus), Meshaw, Germani and the 4 x 400-meter relay foursome of Kendel Dixon (Atglen/Octorara), Percell Berry (Collegeville, PA/Methacton), Shaun Crump (Boyertown/Boyertown) and Meshaw.

 

On the women's side, Kutztown is ranked behind Shippensburg, Slippery Rock and Indiana, Pa. However, the Golden Bears are ranked ahead of Saint Augustine's, Johnson C. Smith, East Stroudsburg, Bowie State, Wheeling-Jesuit University and California, Pa.

 

Led by Ashley Pinter (Bethlehem/Liberty)'s two PSAC titles in the hammer throw and discus, Kutztown had several athletes earn all-PSAC honors. April Doyle (Greenfield Twp., PA/Lakeland) won the shot put. Cristina Reimer (Chester Springs/Downingtown East), Kristen Slack (Royersford/Spring-Ford), Brooke Mathews (Reedsville, PA/Indian Valley), Shante Grayer (Allentown/William Allen), Sarah Messner (Maple Glen/Upper Dublin), Brown and Lynn Lisofsky (Wilkes Barre/James M. Coughlin) also earned all-PSAC recognition following their sterling efforts at the PSAC championships.
