Das and Goulet earn ITA recognition

KUTZTOWN, PA (May 29, 2010) – Kutztown University men’s tennis players Jonathan Goulet and Kaushik Das recently earned regional recognition from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) during its annual awards banquet in Orlando.
Goulet was named Atlantic Region Senior Tennis Player of the Year and Das was named the Atlantic Region Player to Watch award. Together, both players helped the Golden Bears enjoy another memorable season and reach the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Championships for the second straight season.
Kutztown won its ninth Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championship in 11 years. The Golden Bears also won the Atlantic Region #2 by defeating Mercyhurst and West Liberty State in the NCAA Championships. The Golden Bears finished the 2009-10 season with an overall record of 12-5.
Goulet was named the PSAC Athlete of the Year after posting a record of 24-11, playing mostly at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles. He was named to the All-PSAC first team for the first time in his career. Das was named to the All-PSAC singles first team in each of his first two seasons. Das has thrived with the high level of competition at the first singles spot, boasting a 17-5 record.
Das and teammate Arpit Sharma were named to the all-PSAC doubles first-team as well. Das and Sharma finished with an overall record of 15-3 in the No. 1 doubles spot.
“I am very proud of what Jonathan has achieved this year,” Kutztown head coach Suresh Ramamurthi said. “The past two years his attitude and self determination has impressed me. He is a quiet leader that leads by example. Jonathan has shown that he has what it takes to get the points for the team at key times.”
