KUTZTOWN, PA (June 15, 2010) -- Kutztown University senior women’s tennis player Rohini Das finished a fantastic season by being named to the 2010 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® Women’s At-Large third team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

The Women’s At-Large program for Academic All-America® includes the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, skiing, tennis and water polo.

Das was a District II College Division first team selection earlier this year. She becomes the 10th Kutztown student-athlete in history to earn a spot on one of the three ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America teams. Das joins Clint Hibschman (soccer), Tim Barshinger (cross-country & track), Justin Hilt (track and field), Alex Daecher (football), Kristi Braine (track and field), Mike Baldwin (football), Laura Kline (track and field), Ryan Nye (football) and Kelley Healey (field hockey) as Academic All-Americans.

Das, who was a second team all-District II College Division selection last year, finished a phenomenal career for the Golden Bears.

Das was named the Kutztown University senior scholar-athlete of the year. She was one of the most dominant tennis performers in Kutztown history. Das is a three-time all-PSAC Scholar Athlete. A finance and international business major, she has a 3.97 GPA and graduated on May 8. She made the Dean’s List four times and is a three-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete.

She was also named PSAC East Athlete of the Year for the second straight season after another standout year. She compiled an overall singles record of 20-4, including having won her last nine straight matches, while playing solely No. 1 singles. She also combined with a few doubles combinations to go 16-8 at doubles, primarily at No. 1 and playing with Ridhima Borooah, with whom she is 14-8, all at No. 1 doubles. In PSAC East play, she was a perfect 5-0 in singles. Das also earned all-PSAC East all-conference honors in both singles and doubles.

Under Das’ leadership, the Golden Bears qualified for the PSAC East playoffs and advance to the semifinals.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
