KUTZTOWN, PA (June 21, 2010) -- Kutztown University introduced Christina Fried as the new field hockey and women's lacrosse assistant coach Monday afternoon.

Fried came to Kutztown after a successful two-year stint as the Frostburg State University women’s lacrosse assistant coach. She worked with the defense. Under Fried’s guidance and leadership, the Bobcats were among the national leaders in caused turnovers and ground balls.

Fried is no stranger to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. She enjoyed a sterling four-year playing for the Lock Haven women’s lacrosse team. She was a Team Captain as a senior and a Second Team All-PSAC performer as a junior. She helped the Lady Eagles to a 62-14 overall record during her four years, including a pair of NCAA Tournament semifinals, three PSAC Championship appearances and a school record 17 wins (17-2) during the 2006 season.

“I am really excited to join the Kutztown family and work with both programs,” Fried said. “I believe my knowledge and experience will be a great asset for the KU program and its student-athletes.”

Fried was also an active member of the Lock Haven academic community. She was a three-year member of SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee), a member of Alpha Kappa Psi and worked for the LHU Foundation.

“With Christina having played lacrosse in the PSAC, her knowledge of the caliber of student-athlete needed to compete on this level will be an added bonus for our program,” Kutztown women’s lacrosse coach Sarah Greer said. “We are very happy to have Christina on staff and I can’t wait until she begins working with our student-athletes.”

Fried earned her Master’s degree in Business Administration from Frostburg State University in May. She graduated from Lock Haven with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in management. She spent the fall semester of her senior year at Lock Haven studying at the Dublin Business School in Dublin, Ireland.

“We’re looking forward to working with Christina,” Kutztown head field hockey coach Betty Wesner said. “She has the enthusiasm, experience along with a strong work-ethic to help take our program to another level.”
