Bowling recruits the largest class in program history

KUTZTOWN, PA (May 27, 2010) – The Kutztown University bowling program has announced new recruits for the 2010-11 season. Head coach Joe Ambrose announced the recruit of 10 freshman and one transfer, making it the largest incoming class in the program history.
“Obviously this is a very good recruiting class for Kutztown,” Ambrose said. “It will give us the deepest team we have here to date.”
Here's a look at the 2010-11 Recruits:
Gina Capone
Capone is a transfer student from Briarcliffe College who will study business administration. As a freshman she finished in seventh place for the Top Nations Rookies among United States Bowling Congress (USBC) teams with an average of 192.5. This past season, Capone helped the Seahawks finish fourth at Sectionals and qualify for USBC Nationals. Capone, a right-hander, held a 200 average this past season. Capone's career high game is 289, and her high seasoned average is 215.6, achieved on the East Islip High School team, which is also a county record.
Brooke Bower
Bower, from Cedar Cliff High School bowled a 215 average this past season. She reached the Final Four in the Pennsylvania State Championships in both 2009 and 2010. She is the 2010 PA Girls All-Events Champion. Bower’s high career game is a perfect 300. Bower will major in Business Administration.
Jillian Keller
Keller is from Pennsbury High School. She has a 200 composite average during her four-year high school career. She is the 2009 and 2010 Suburban Conference Bowler of the Year. She won the North Jersey Singles Classic tournament in 2009. Her career high game is 299.
Deanna DiRado
From Greensburg-Salem High School, DiRado averaged 206.3 this season and was named the Section MVP in the WIPBL high school league. DiRado’s career high game is 299. DiRado will focus on mathematics.
Allison Michener
Michner averaged 202 this past season. She was named Section All-Star and First Team. Michener is from Columbia High School and won the Snowroller High School Classic All-Tournament three consecutive years. Michener will study business administration.
Rebecca Velazquez
Velazquez is from Lakeland High School in New York and will major in business administration. This past season she averaged 202.8. Velazquez was named to the All-Section team this past season. She also won the Section Singles Title this past season.
Heather Miller
Miller is from Suffern High School in New York. She has qualified for the N.Y. State Championships her sophomore and senior year. She qualified for the N.Y. State Sectionals for three consecutive years. Miller plans to major in secondary education and elementary education with a focus in pre kindergarten through fourth grade.
Heather Van Dyk
Van Dyk is from Jefferson High School in New Jersey. Averaging 201.2 this season, she was named ot the First Team All-North Jersey. She placed 11th at the North Jersey Sectional and 10th in the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) Finals. Van Dyk will major in electronic media.
Britney Chamuras
Chamuras is from Exeter High School and will focus her studies on secondary education/elementary education mathematics. She averaged 213.4 this season and qualifed for the 2010 PA State Singles Qualifier. She finished third in the county tournament. Her high school team has been the Berks County Division Champions since 2008. Chamuras’ high game is 299.
Jessica Remphery
From Midd West High School, Remphery averaged 204 this season. Her team made it to the 2010 PA State Championships. Rephery helped her team be recognized as a Pennsylvania Heartland Athletic Conference (PHAC) All-Conference Team. Remphery will major in secondary education/elementary education mathematics.
Mary Kate Hart
Hart is from Staten Island, New York. She was team captain both her junior and senior year in high school. For the last three years she has been named the team Most Vaulable Player (MVP). Hart was recognized as a Staten Island Advance All-Star her sophomore year of high school. Hart will major in communication design.
“These are all great additions to our six returning players,” Ambrose said. "Our accomplishments have been many in our short history,” Ambrose said. “But now we are looking to make the next step, by qualifying to go to NCAA Nationals. We will have to work very hard in order to compete with the high quality teams both nationally and in the Northeast Conference (NEC). But I’m more excited than ever for Kutztown bowling in 2010-11 and beyond.”
