KU bowling adds two-time All-American Santoro to 2010-11 recruiting class

KUTZTOWN, PA (July 12, 2010) – Kutztown University head bowling coach Joe Ambrose is proud to welcome two-time All-American bowler Samantha Santoro to the Kutztown University family. Santoro is transferring to Kutztown after a sterling career at Arkansas State University. (LINK TO SANTORO FEATURE ON BOWL.COM)
Santoro is the anchor of Kutztown’s strongest and largest recruiting class in program history. She will be joining a talented Kutztown squad that returns mostly everyone from a team that went 15-3 in the NEC Conference and finished 14th in the National TenPins Coaches Association top 20. Santoro is one of 11 newcomers to the Golden Bears.
“Having Sam Santoro transfer to KU was a great surprise indeed,” Ambrose said. “A two-time All-American does not transfer to your school everyday. Sam gives us another quality player and definitely makes us better, along with our returning players and recruits coming in. Her experience at (Arkansas State) and being on a team that went to nationals the past two years will help us a lot.”
Santoro was named to the 2010 NCAA National Championships All-Tournament Team, averaging 221 over seven-team games for a total pin fall of 1547 which was the highest individual average by any bowler at the 2010 NCAA National Championships. She shot a 290 her first game to start the tournament, which turned out to be the high game of the tournament.
Arkansas State placed third overall at nationals, and finished the season with a record of 79-40.
As the anchor of the team, Santoro was named to All-Tournament Teams four different times during the regular season and was selected a Second Team All-American by the National Ten Pin Coaches Association with a 195.04 average which was the sixth highest average in the nation for NCAA women’s bowlers.
