KUTZTOWN, PA (July 30, 2010) – Ryan Vogelsong has found a new home a couple of time zones away. He was signed by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim to a minor league contract and assigned to their Triple-A team, the Salt Lake Bees.
Vogelsong started for Salt Lake against Portland Wednesday evening and struck out five batters in two innings. Vogelsong, 33, appeared in 25 games (seven starts) for Triple-A Lehigh Valley in 2010 before being released on July 16. He posted a 2-5 record with one save and a 4.91 earned run average. Vogelsong struck out 73 batters in 58.2 innings.
Prior to Lehigh Valley, he spent three seasons in Japan, including a season with the Orix Buffaloes and two seasons with the Hanshin Tigers.
The 2000 Kutztown graduate and Hall of Famer was originally drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the fifth round of the 1998 draft. He has appeared in 120 major league games over six seasons, including 17 games for the Giants and 103 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
