KUTZTOWN, PA (August 11, 2010) – Under a searing sun, the summer silence stopped as the Kutztown University football team became the first of the 21 athletic teams to report to campus Wednesday afternoon to begin the school year. The football team will be joined by the women’s soccer and volleyball teams on Sunday afternoon. (PHOTO GALLERY)
Many players -- while listening to I-pods and wearing blue Dallas Cowboy and red Philadelphia Phillie baseball caps -- brought all of the comforts of home with them as they carried large computers, flat-screen televisions, clear cases of bottled water and orange Gatorade, blue storage bins, colorful duffel bags and comfortable blankets up and down grey concrete stairs as sweat poured off of them like a Niagara Falls waterfall.
More importantly, the players also arrived with a positive attitude and a championship mindset. Once their items were securely stored in their rooms, players walked through the humid temperatures to Keystone Hall and picked up and got fitted for their equipment. They received their gold helmets, black shoulder-pads, grey sweats and maroon shorts.
Immediately after filling out their compliance paperwork, the team got down to business of focusing on their season-opener against Saint Anselm College on Saturday, September 4 at University Field. Kickoff is set for 1:05 p.m. The Golden Bears start preparations Thursday morning with conditioning tests, position meetings and an afternoon practice. (CLICK HERE FOR COMPLETE 2010 SCHEDULE)

With 52 letterwinners returning, the Golden Bears are determined to make 2010 a memorable season. Fifth-year coach Raymond Monica is optimistic that Kutztown will rebound from a tough 2009 campaign that featured several close defeats. The Golden Bears lost three games by four points or less and dropped two other contests in overtime.
Kutztown returns Kutztown will host its annual media/picture day Monday morning at 11 a.m. at University Field. A complete practice schedule will be released later in the week.
