Three KU bowlers earn Brunswick Academic honors

KUTZTOWN, PA (August 22, 2010) – Chelsea Adam, Steph Ray and Jess Abrecht were named to the 2009-10 Brunswick All-Academic Team selected by the National Tenpin Coaches Association.

 

Adam, Ray and Abrecht helped the Golden Bears finish the season ranked 14th in the final National Tenpin's Coaches Association (NTCA) top 20 poll and advance to the Northeast Conference semifinals. Kutztown, which won 61 matches, also finished the season ranked fourth in strength of schedule. In the 12 tournaments Kutztown participated in this season, they finished eighth or higher. Kutztown also earned the NEC Sportsmanship Award.

 

Adam was named to the Northeast Conference's (NEC) Commissioner's Honor Roll. To be named to the prestigious list, a student-athlete must earn a grade point average (GPA) of 3.75 or higher. Adam, a communication design major, has a perfect 4.0 GPA. She averaged 182.4 in 39 games.

 

Abretch, a communication designs major, averaged 182.2, in 10 games for the Golden Bears.

 

Ray, who was one of the captains this season, was named to the NEC all-conference second team. This is the second consecutive year that Ray has earned postseason recognition from the NEC. She will receive her degree in Mathematics in December. Ray will student teach this semester.

 

The NTCA and Brunswick honored fifteen student-athletes with first, second and third

team mention based upon performance and academic accomplishments. One hundred

and ten student-athletes from twenty-nine schools were given academic recognition.

To be honored, student-athletes had to achieve a minimum of a 3.4 grade point average during the recent academic year.
