KUTZTOWN, PA (August 29, 2010) – View pictures from the Kutztown University volleyball teams’ annual scavenger hunt by CLICKING HERE.

The scavenger hunt started in 2003 as a team-bonding activity during preseason camp.  It was a chance to take a break from the court and have the players work together and have some fun in a different setting while still maintaining a competitive atmosphere. Because they are running all over campus for 90 minutes there is also a physical challenge involved.

Upperclassmen and new players are put together on teams so they can continue to develop relationships and also so the veterans can serve as guides around campus as they search for the items on the list. The "funniest picture" category was added in 2005 as a way to break ties. Most of the teams were successful in finding all of the targets so we needed a way to break the resulting deadlocks. The panel of impartial judges used in the first years of the category has been replaced by voting on head coach John Gump’s Facebook page.

Players look forward to this activity every year and work hard to win. Winners receive a certificate entitling them to take one day off during our 6:00 a.m. strength training sessions during the spring, which is a valuable prize.

The Golden Bears begin their 2010 season Friday afternoon when it hosts Le Moyne College at 4:30 p.m. in the Kutztown Classic at Keystone Arena.
