KUTZTOWN, PA (August 3, 2010) -- Kutztown University’s women’s outdoor track and field team has earned a reputation as one of the best all-around programs in the country. That point was reinforced on Tuesday when it was announced that the Golden Bears earned a spot on the United States Track and Field Cross-Country Coaches’ Association (USTFCCCA) 2010 Division II Track and Field All-Academic team.
Kutztown’s team GPA for last season was 3.27. This is the third consecutive year the Kutztown women has been included on the USTFCCCA all-academic team. Overall, a total of 67 institutions earned the distinction as Division II All-Academic track and field teams as a result of a team GPA of 3.0 or better. Kutztown was one of 10 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference schools honored as a All-Academic track and field teams.
“This is a great distinction for our program,” Kutztown head women’s track and field coach Ray Hoffman said. “These young ladies have worked very diligently in the classroom and I am proud of the entire team. They have done a great job of balancing both the demands of being a student and an athlete.”
Six Kutztown University female track and field student-athletes were amongst a record total of 276 announced on the women’s 2010 Division II All-Academic Track & Field team by the USTFCCCA.
Those Kutztown University student-athletes that earned All-Academic status are Keri Brown, Kristin Cupido, April Doyle, Steph Grimm, Lynn Lisofsky and Jessica Schlecter.
The Kutztown women’s track and field team concluded a fantastic season by finishing third in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) outdoor championships and fifth in the PSAC indoor championships. The third place effort at the outdoor championships was the highest finish since 2007.
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) is a non-profit professional organization representing cross country and track & field coaches of all levels. The organization represents over 8,000 coaching members encompassing 94% of all NCAA track & field programs (DI, DII, and DIII) and includes members representing the NAIA as well as a number of state high school coaches associations. The USTFCCCA serves as an advocate for cross country and track & field coaches, providing a leadership structure to assist the needs of a diverse membership, serving as a lobbyist for coaches' interests, and working as a liaison between the various stakeholders in the sports of cross country and track & field.
