KUTZTOWN, Pa. (May 12, 2011) – The Kutztown University women's soccer family is proud to announce the addition of 16 future Golden Bears to represent the maroon & gold in the coming years. They will be joining a program that has made consecutive trips to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional tournament. (COMPLETE LIST OF RECRUITS)
“Today we are announcing what I believe may be the very best recruiting class we have ever signed in my tenure at KU,” Kutztown head women's soccer coach Erik Burstein said. “The overall talent in this 2011 group is extraordinary and I truly believe they will add a tremendous amount to the culture of our women's soccer program.”
Tess Arbegast (Carlisle, PA/Big Spring)
As a junior at Big Spring High School, Arbegast was named team MVP and Offensive Player of the Year. She was also a first team All-Sentinel selection as a freshman and junior. She is the all-time point leader in school history. A member of the National Art Honor Society and National Honors Society, Arbegast is undecided on her major.
Jessica Campbell
A goalkeeper, Campbell helped Conestoga Valley High School win consecutive Lebanon-Lancaster League Section 2 championships. A four-year honor roll standout, Campbell is planning to major in elementary education.
Samantha Costello
Costello was a three-year varsity letterman. At Westfield (N.J.) High School, Costello was named to the Union County Girls Soccer Association Honorable Mention and Union County Girls Soccer Soccer Association second team and she was named All-state by the New Jersey Girls Coaches' Association. Costello was selected to the Newark Star Ledger Union County second team. She helped Westfield earn a No. 3 ranking in the state and No. 11 nationally according to ESPNrise.com. Costello helped Westfield win the New Jersey Group 4 state sectional championship and advance to the Group state semifinals. Westfield also captured the Watchung Conference championship. A distinguished honor roll member, Costello is planning to major in human kinetics.
Jordyn Davis (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah)
Davis led Mahwah (N.J.) High School to the New Jersey state title. As a senior, Davis earned first team all-league, second-team all-county and all-state recognition. A four year varsity letterwinner, Davis was a first team all-league, third-team all-county and a member of the all-state team as a junior. IN addition, Davis helped Mahwah to an appearance in the state title match and the North I Group 2 finals as a junior. An honor roll student, Davis is undecided on her major.
Mariah Dimm (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield)
A four-year varsity starter, Dimm was named a first-team all-star as a senior and second team all-star as a junior. While playing for Hempfield High School, Dimm was led the Lancaster-Lebanon League in goals and assists as a senior. Dimm was also selected as a Lancaster Newspaper All-Star in 2010. A distinguished honor roll student, Dimm is undecided about her major at Kutztown.
Hanna Fenstermacher (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove)
She was a second team All-state selection at Avon Grove High School. An honor roll student, Fenstermacher is undecided on her major.
Alycia Giauque (Middletown, MD/Middletown)
Giauque was named first team All-Area by the Frederick News as a senior and junior at Middletown (Md.) High School. She was also selected to the MVAL Piedmont Conference first team as a senior and junior. Giauque also helped Middletown win the Maryland Soccer 2A championship as a senior. She also was named honorable mention all-state. A second team selection by the Gazette as a junior, Giauque is also a two-sport standout. She was a member of the state championship 4 x 200-meter relay team. A four-year honor roll standout and member of the National English Honor Society, Giauque is planning to major in elementary education.
Taylor Higgins (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley)
A midfielder and forward, Higgins helped Conestoga Valley High School win consecutive Lebanon-Lancaster League Section 2 championships. Higgins was also selected as a L-L all-star in her first three years. Also a field hockey standout, Higgins was a three-year L-L all-star and an all-state nominee. She is planning to major in elementary education with a concentration in special education.
Isabella Jaffin
Jaffin earned four varsity letters and was a member of the Berwick Area High School District II championship team in 2008. A distinguished honor roll member, Jaffin is undecided about her major.
Rebecca Kovalik (Fairless Hills, PA/Pennsbury)
Kovalik was named the Suburban One All League honorable mention team as a senior and to the third team at Pennsbury High School. She also is a member of the FC Bucks Rage Soccer Team that was ranked second in the state in the East Region, 14th in Region I and 48th nationally. An honor roll student, Kovalik is majoring biology.
Jessica Lark (Northumberland, PA/Shikellamy)
Lark was a four-year starter for Shikellamy Senior High School. Lark is a three-time first team Heartland Conference selection, defensive MVP, and four-time winner of the Academic Achievement award winner. As a freshman, Lark was named as an honorable mention selection to the Heartland Conference. She served as a team captain during her senior season. A four year member of the distinguished honor roll, Lark is planning to major in business administration and management.
Jennifer Mason (Andover, NJ/Newton)
Mason was selected to the Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference All-Academic Team and first team Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference. In addition, she was selected to the first team New Jersey Herald and first team All-League. An honor roll student, Mason is undecided on her major.
Rubi Mink (West Milford, N.J./West Milford)
Mink was named the most valuable player at West Milford (N.J.) Township High School as a senior. She scored seven goals and handed out 10 assists as a senior. She was named first team All-County Passaic County Coaches Association and Big North Conference as a senior. Following her junior season, Mink was an honorable mention North Jersey Tri-County Conference selection. As a sophomore, Mink was named a second team Northern Hills Conference and honorable mention North Jersey Tri-Country Conference selection. An honor roll student, Mink is majoring in chemistry.
Morgan Murphy (Aston, PA/Sun Valley)
As a goalie for Sun Valley High School, Murphy was one of the team captains as a junior and senior. She was a three-year team MVP. Murphy was selected to the second team All-Ches Mont League as a sophomore and junior. She finished her career with the second most shutouts in school history. Murphy is undecided on her major.
Mollie O'Brien (Silverdale, PA/Pennridge)
A four-year letterwinner at Pennridge High School, O'Brien was a senior captain. She was selected to second team Suburban One All League team. O'Brien helped Pennsbury win the PIAA Class AAA District One girls soccer championship as a sophomore and senior. She was named offensive player of the year as a junior after leading Pennridge to the Suburban One League championship. A member of the distinguished honor roll, O'Brien is majoring in biology.
Lauren Steffen (Halifax, PA/Halifax)
Steffan was a four-year varsity letter winner at Halifax High School. She was a first team All-State midfielder. Steffan was named MVP of the Schuylkill League, Tri-Valley League and All-Sentinel. Steffen was selected as the Pottsville Republican co-MVP and named to the Big 11 honorable mention. A multi-sport standout, Steffan was a member of the 4 x 800-meter relay team that won the state title and finished as the 2010 District III runner-up. She was also first team All-Sentinel in basketball. A member of the distinguished honor roll and national honor society, Steffan plans to major in biology and minor in Spanish.
“We have enjoyed some great successes over the past three years, but we do not want the run to end,” Burstein said. “With the addition of these 16 players, I truly believe our program now has the perfect mix of talent and experience to continue moving forward and achieving even more. Obviously this will not be easy, but once we get everyone on the same page, I think we will see some truly phenomenal results.”
