Falcons Sign Robbie Frey as Undrafted Free Agent

ATLANTA – Former Kutztown University running back Robbie Frey (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton) (Lehighton, Pa./Lehighton) has signed a free agent contract with the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League.

Frey was named to the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division team after he played in 12 games and led KU in his senior year with 1,185 rushing yards on 189 carries. The running back was fourth in the PSAC and 28th in Division II in rushing (98.75). Frey rushed for 11 touchdowns, the most by a Kutztown running back since 2002.

He had a career-high 158 yards on the ground against East Stroudsburg on October 8 to go along with a pair of touchdowns.  It was one of three in which he scored more than one touchdown during the year. Frey also had eight catches for 30 yards as a senior.  He returned nine kickoffs for an average of 29.8 yards including a 71-yarder against Shippensburg on Oct. 1. He finished the season with 1,483 all-purpose yards.

The 2011 season saw KU set a school record for victories in a season (11), while winning its first PSAC Championship and NCAA playoff game.  The team's six PSAC East victories tied the school mark set during 2010. Additionally, Kutztown set school records for points (487), passing touchdowns (41), total touchdowns (68), rushing yards (2,576), and total offense (6,048) last year.

He will compete for a spot in the Falcons backfield that includes Michael Turner, Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling.  Turner led the team in 2011 with 1,340 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns as Atlanta won 10 games and advanced to the Wild Card Round of the National Football Conference Playoffs.
