Former Golden Bear Point Guard and Division II Player of the Year Stephen Dennis has Signed with the Brooklyn Nets

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – After spending the 2012 AirTran Airways Pro Summer League with the Brooklyn Nets, the organization decided to bring former Kutztown University point guard Stephen Dennis back as a member of the 18-man training camp roster.

A native of West Chester, Pa., Dennis put together a stellar career in the Maroon and Gold, capped off by a senior season that saw him average over 26 points a game as the Division II Player of the Year in 2010.

The 6-6 guard broke Kutztown's career scoring record and his 2,406 points ranks third in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) history.  He was named the PSAC East Player of the Year as a senior, and was a four-time All-PSAC East selection.  He earned first team honors his last three years after earning second team honors as a freshman in addition to being named the PSAC East Rookie of the Year.

In addition to setting the all-time Kutztown scoring record, Dennis established program marks in field goals (850), free throws (621) and assists (447). He also set the KU single season scoring record in two consecutive seasons. His senior year total of 817 points surpassed the 710 he posted as a junior.

In four games in the 2012 NBA Summer League, Dennis averaged five points and three rebounds a game in 17.5 minutes a game. His summer was highlighted by a 10-point, five-steal performance in which his Nets topped the Pacers, 90-77.

Along with Dennis, the Nets went out and signed former Clemson forward James Mays who has bounced around overseas and with a few NBA D-League teams. They also signed Carleton Scott who played three seasons at Notre Dame and spent this summer with Dennis on Brooklyn's entry in the Summer League.

The Nets finished the 2011-12 season with a record of 22-49 in the basement of the Eastern Conference's Atlantic Division. With a new identity, the team will look to bounce back following the move from New Jersey.  It will open its preseason slate of games on October 13 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. when it takes on the Philadelphia 76ers at 7:00 p.m.
