Women's Tennis Defeats Millersville in Consolation For Double-Digit Victory

INDIANA, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's tennis team wrapped up its part of the 2013 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships with a 5-3 victory over Millersville University in the consolation round Saturday.
 
The defeat of the Marauders (8-13) marked the first time the Golden Bears (10-8) have recorded double-digit match wins since the 2009-10 season (10). 
 
In singles, senior Rachel Grula (Drums, PA/Hazleton Area) (6-0, 6-4) earned her career-high ninth win this season, while Hannah Pipkin (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) (6-1, 6-1) recorded her seventh.   
 
Chelsea Davis (Spring City, Pa./Spring-Ford) went to three sets, dropping the first 5-7. She grabbed the crown in both the second and third sets 6-3, 6-3, to pick up her ninth win of the season.
 
In doubles, senior Ridhima Borooah (Guwahati-Assam, India/Modern School; Barakhamba Road; New Delhi) and Pipkin (8-5) won their 10th match of the season as a pair. It also marked Borooah's 11th win in doubles this season.
 
Emily Troast (/) and Cynthia Good (Montrose, Pa./Elk Lake) (8-6) picked up their eighth win as a pair as well.
 
Borooah has been with the team since her freshman year and has made a consistent impact on the team. She has a career record of 69 combined wins and has picked up 33 wins in singles action and 36 wins in doubles.
 
Grula has also been on the team since she was a freshman, making significant improvements each season. Her nine wins in singles and doubles play are both career-high's, as well as her 18 combined wins this season. Grula has a career record of 49 combined wins, 22 of which are in singles and 27 wins in doubles.
 
Kutztown finished a perfect 6-0 in the PSAC regular season and earned the Eastern Division title for the first time in school history. The Golden Bears will await the NCAA selections to be announced April 23 at 8 p.m. on NCAA.com.
