Golden Bears Boost Confidence Before Regionals With Win Over Elizabethtown

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's tennis team swept Elizabethtown College 9-0 Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference match at Keystone Courts.
 
At No. 1 doubles, Rushi Amin (Orefield, PA/Lake Brantley) and Varun Desai (Mumbai, India/K.C. College) picked up their eighth win as a pair this season, allowing the Blue Jays only one point in their 8-1 victory.
 
Rich Lichtenwalner (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) and Ben Nace (Spring Grove, Pa./Delone Catholic) inflicted the same fate on the Blue Jays winning 8-1, while Matthew Maguire and Kenny Beebe (8-3) took their winning streak to four.
 
Amin swept his competition in singles 6-0, 6-0, and freshman Patricio Hernandez (Mexico City, Mexico/Colegio Vista Hermosa) allowed no more than two points scored against him in either sets of his match victory 6-2, 6-1.
 
Maguire dropped his first singles set 4-6, but turned the game around to take the second set 6-4, and third set 10-6 for the victory.
 
Desai (6-4, 6-3), Lichtenwalner (6-0, 6-4), and Nace (6-4, 6-1) each contributed to the Golden Bears' sweep with victories as well.
 
KU returns to action Sunday, April 28 when they travel to Bluefield, W. Va., to face Shaw University in the NCAA Atlantic Regionals.
