EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Kutztown University baseball alum Shayne Houck, a member of the first-place Evansville Otters, was named the Most Valuable Player of the Frontier League earlier this week.
Â
Houck leads the Otters in all triple crown categories with a .311 batting average, 22 home runs and 62 runs batted in. He has more home runs than anyone else in the Frontier League this season and his 22 home runs are a new Otters single season record. He has also set the Otters record for most total bases in a season (190) and still has six games to be played this regular season.
Â
"Shayne has been the true definition of MVP for us this year," said head coach Andy McCauley. "I am so happy he got the recognition by the league that he deserves. He has worked tirelessly all year and has been the best, most consistent hitter in the league."
Â
Houck is the first Otter, in the 20-year history of the franchise, to be named MVP of the Frontier League. The MVP Award is named for Morgan Burkhart who was once described by esteemed baseball writer Peter Gammons as the "Babe Ruth of the Frontier League."
Â
Houck also was named a post-season All-Star at third base as well.
