Women's Soccer Falls in PSAC Quarterfinal to Edinboro, 1-0

EDINBORO, Pa. – Heading into Tuesday's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Quarterfinal, each team knew it would be a defensive battle, and expectations held true as the Kutztown University women's soccer team surrendered just one goal, but fell to Edinboro University, 1-0, at Sox Harrison Stadium.

Kutztown (11-6-1, 11-5 PSAC) was largely unable to get into an offensive rhythm as Edinboro (13-6, 11-5) held a 14-7 advantage in shots, including a 6-2 lead in the first half.

The game remained scoreless until the 67th minute when Alex Brown scored on a shot from well outside the box that found its way into the top left corner of the goal for the Fighting Scots.

Despite recording nine corner kicks and holding Edinboro to six, the Golden Bears could not manage to get on the board.

Sophomore goalkeeper Deanna Messner (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) tallied six saves on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior midfielder Diana Malanga (Lavallette, N.J./St. Rose) led the Golden Bears with three shots (two on goal). Tuesday's game marked her 74th career start for the Maroon and Gold, the fifth-most starts in KU history.

Last season, the Fighting Scots were bounced in the PSAC Quarterfinals by Kutztown, 2-0, at Keystone Field.

Up next, the Golden Bears await word from the NCAA Tournament selection committee on a potential berth in the playoffs. The Division II women's soccer tournament field will be selected on Monday, Nov. 9 at 6:30 p.m.
