Golden Bears drop close meet to Glenville State

KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Glenville State used a strong second half to clip the Kutztown University acrobatics & tumbling team, 237.540-233.595, in a matchup of Mountain East Conference postseason hopefuls Friday night at Keystone Arena.

Kutztown (6-2, 3-2 MEC) held a slim halftime lead after outscoring the Pioneers in the compulsory event and hanging tough in both the acro and pyramid events. The Maroon and Gold opened with scores of 9+ in the acro, pyramid and toss heats to open a 34.35-33.30 advantage after the compulsory event.

Though Glenville State (6-2, 5-1 MEC) won the next two events, Kutztown did a solid job of keeping the scores close. A 9.70/9.90 in the 7-element heat helped the Bears finish the acro event on a high note as they ceded just .05 points.

KU put forth a strong performance in the pyramid event with a 9.55/10 in the inversion heat, a 9.35/10 in the synchronized heat and a 9.80/10 in the open heat. The Pioneers were able to capture some momentum with a perfect score of 10 in the inversion heat and trimmed 0.4 points off KU's lead to head into the break trailing 90.45-89.85.

Glenville State went in front during the toss event, outscoring KU 25.55-23.90 and added to its lead in the tumbling and team events. Kutztown's top second half heat score came in the 6-element pass (9.00/9.55) of the tumbling event.

The Golden Bears had a six-meet win streak snapped with Friday night's defeat. They'll close out the regular season with Senior Day against nationally ranked No. 5 Fairmont State on Saturday, April 5, at 3 p.m.
