Michelle Gober is in her 14th year as the associate director of athletics at Kutztown University and also serves as the school's senior woman administrator (SWA).
Gober has been the lead compliance officer for the department and also assumed the role of interim director of athletics from August, 2020, through March, 2021.
Gober previously worked at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., first as the head athletic trainer, where she oversaw orthopedic evaluations, rehabilitation programs and care for Bison student-athletes. In 2003, Gober moved into athletic administration when she was elevated to assistant athletic director, a position she held until coming to Kutztown. In her role, Gober coordinated compliance, budgeting and scheduling, while also handling SWA duties and overseeing the university's student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC).
Additionally, Gober taught athletic training courses for George Mason University’s accredited program as an adjunct instructor.
Gober will be responsible for the oversight and leadership of the Golden Bears' 21 NCAA Division II varsity sports programs as the interim AD. As associate AD from 2007-20, she listed compliance, scheduling and game management among her primary duties.
Gober is a 1997 graduate of Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia, where she received a bachelor's degree in kinesiology, with a minor in biology and concentration in sports medicine. Gober was a four-year member of the Hornets' women’s basketball team, serving as captain in 1996 and 1997. She also played lacrosse and softball, while serving as a student athletic trainer from 1993-97.
Gober received her master's degree in exercise, fitness and health promotion from George Mason in 2004. She is a licensed athletic trainer in Pennsylvania and a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA) and the National Association of Collegiate Director's of Athletics (NACDA).
A native of Nokesville, Virginia, Gober is a graduate of Brentsville District High School. Michelle and her husband, Steve, have two daughters, Gabrielle and Hannah.
